Coastal living means fresh seafood and lucky for those travelling to Cabarete, finding delicious and fresh seafood on any budget is super easy. Here are my picks for the best seafood in Cabarete. The best part? All of these places serve other food for those travelling with folks who aren’t into fish.
Wilson's Restaurant and Bar

ABOUT THIS SPOT:
This is hands down my favourite place in all of the Puerto Plata region to eat traditional Dominican seafood. It’s a bit of a trek to get there from central Cabarete but the trip is absolutely worth it. Somehow this place gets the seasonings down into the meat of the fish like no other and the garlic sauce for the river crabs is so good it literally brings tears to my eyes. Read more about this special spot here.
TIP: Avoid going on the weekend as it can get very full and that makes the service a bit slower. Photo by E. Abreau Visuals

La Mesa Taina

ABOUT THIS SPOT:
La Mesa Taína isn’t exclusively a seafood restaurant but it’s got some of the best (and most affordable) sushi in Cabarete. Enjoy classic Japanese flavours or experience sushi with a Caribbean twist. The food is consistently fresh, consistently good, and you can enjoy it while taking in the epic sights of Kite Beach.

Casa Mami

ABOUT THIS SPOT:
Casa Mami, a little spot run by Dominican-Spanish couple Mami and Angel serves up traditional Dominican plates and fresh fish—everything from swordfish to langostinos. The food here is always tasty and their locally made hot sauce will melt your face off in the best way possible. It’s a hot sauce that’s not just spicy, it’s incredibly flavourful, too.
Order this:
The Paella for four. This traditional Spanish plate is wonderful, the rice is always cooked perfectly al dente with generous amounts of shrimp, langostinos and pieces of whatever fresh catch was brought in that day.

La Casita de Papi

ABOUT THIS SPOT:
Not to be confused with my previous pick, Casita de Papi is located right on Cabarete beach. You’re immediately greeted with a bread basket and a tomato salsa that never disappoints, exceptionally attentive waitstaff and at the end, a shot glass full of some pretty good mamajuana: a local drink said to be an aphrodisiac. This experience is higher-end and great for date night or travellers who aren’t on a budget.
Order this:
To start: the ceviche with avocado, it’s perfectly briny and delicious, but the must-have are the langostinos a la papi. These langostinos are always cooked to perfection in a creamy sauce with just a hint of curry that will have you fighting for the last one.

ABOUT THIS SPOT:
Tuva’ is a Cabarete hidden gem nestled on Kite Beach. The entrance is unassuming but the restaurant itself is stunning, from the decor to outdoor dining experience, it’s definitely a place to visit for a celebration or a higher-end date night. You won’t be disappointed by the sights or the plates being served up at this Italian restaurant. The splurge is absolutely worth it.

The Linguine Aragostine is a masterpiece.
